SCENARIO 1:

[A quiet, brown-haired girl was wandering through the campus, seemingly lost. She kept consulting a notebook as she went, but still seemed a bit flighty. Care to help her?]

SCENARIO 2:

[A completely different girl with long blonde hair in pigtails was just... sitting there. In the cafeteria. Chewing gum and watching the world go by with an analytical eye. There were wheels within wheels turning in her twisted mind, as she took stock of everyone around her. Perhaps some of them would be useful...]

[ Henry entered the cafeteria, oblivious to the newcomer sitting at the table. With a perky bounce to his step and a smile to match, he passed her table by. Quite possibly on the hunt for something to eat, but who knew: maybe he was just going to go visit Nancy.

Whatever it was, it surely wasn't important. ]

[That perky bounce, that smile on his face... It made Junko sick to her stomach. With an emotionless expression, she watched him pass. If ever there was someone who needed to be taught the meaning of despair, this was it. ~~Little did she know...~~

But still. Not everyone knew about how she really was yet. Best not to tip her hand too soon. So on came the smile.]

Ooh, where are you going? It must be exciting, you look so hap-happy!

[ Oh yeah, little did she know.

Henry stopped and looked at her with an unfaltering expression, though he was actually quite surprised that she called out to him. ]

Ehh? Happy? [ He paused. ] Ahaha, you must be thinking of my smile~ I'm always happy, so why hide it~? [ Smile smile. ] I'm just getting something to eat, of course. Why else would I be here?

You're always happy? [IT'S WORSE THAN SHE THOUGHT...] Why's that? What do you have to be happy about?

[ Henry giggled. ] This is just the way I am, smiling and happy~ Why, is it bad to be like this? It's just what I do.

Don't you have other feelings? Being happy all the time... That must be so boring!

[ He hummed thoughtfully. ] You look pretty happy too, huh~? Or maybe you're just smiling like I am? What's so different about that?

[Oh dear, who was this person? She seemed strangely familiar, yet... Nah, must be his imagination.

Regardless, she looks rather lost...]

Um, excuse me? I'm sorry to ask but, um... have you only just arrived here?

[She just couldn't keep it up. One personality? How utterly BORING.

All at once she almost seemed to become a different person. Her look seemed to change right along with her voice, as she became more serious.]

Being so happy all the time is clearly just a mask you wear to disguise how you really feel about the world.

[Perfect. One of her former classmates. This would be the perfect test to see how easy it would be to fool the rest...]

Ah... Yes, I have. At least I believe so... I'm still not certain how to get around all that well. This place is very different from Hope's Peak...

Whoa~! [ He was shocked by her change, but enjoying it anyway. He giggled. ]

How'd you change so suddenly like that? So amazing~

[ He'd skirt the issue of his "mask". He'd heard that before. ]

I'm just proving a point. I can put on any mask I like, and there's no way you'd ever know if you're seeing my real feelings or not. So how can anybody understand the real you?

[Her voice seemed to change, sounding a bit more melancholic.]

Doesn't that... depress you?

The real me? Hmmmm...

[ It seemed as though he was thinking about it. ]

Nope, I don't see what reason I'd have to be depressed~ This is just the way my face is, you see. I'm happy as happy can be, doing the things I like~

[Oh god. Abort everything ever because two particular words had pinged him, rather badly actually.]

..... Y-you're from Hope's Peak?

That's right. I went there for a few years, but I transferred here. My name is Ryouko Otonashi... Are you familiar with Hope's Peak? You look familiar. Perhaps I've seen you before...

[Out came the notebook, flipping pages to see if she left herself any notes on Chihiro. This was just TOO GOOD. It took all her effort not to laugh at the sudden panic in Fujisaki's voice.]

And just what is it that you like?

['But most of the student body and faculty are dead'- then again, he was dead too, technically.]

Oh, um, I went there are as well.... i'm sorry but I don't think I had, um, seen you around there.

I suppose we never had classes together... Forgive me if I can't remember. I have some problems with my short term memory. I leave myself notes so I try not to forget anything important... Ah, here we are. Chihiro Fujisaki, Super High School Level Programmer.

[Oh yes, she knew all about dead classmates coming back to life. It's part of the reason she put on this ruse in the first place.]

I enjoy battle and war~ That's why I came to this school, y'know. The thrill of being in the heat of battle... That's my kind of scene! Ahahaha~

~~Junko grabbed Henry by the collar and threw him to a nearby table. "TAKE ME NOW!" she screamed.~~

The absolute despair of being surrounded by the dead and dying, bombs going off, limbs rended asunder, fear for one's own life... Such total and complete despair...

It's not despair, it's loads of fun! If a war's going to happen, you have to make it into something exciting~ And I just happen to like slinging spells around and watching my foes go - BOOM!

[ As though to emphasize this, Henry brought his fists to his skull and threw them out while splaying out his fingers. Then he laughed. ]

So I go where I can find more excitement like that.

Um, yes, that's me- It's... nice to meet you, Otonashi-san.

[~~Nearly anyone is nice to meet unless it's Enoshima, amirite.~~]

[~~Yeah geez what a horrible person~~]

Did you transfer here as well? This place must be much more prestigious than Hope's Peak...

[Was... Was she agreeing? Or was she just standing there with eyes glazed over and looking... mildly aroused?]

Dark, dark, gloomy, complete, miserable, painful, horrifying, absolute, dark, dark, despair...

[Okay yeah, it was the latter.]

[ She is totally lost by something. And Henry is lost by this reaction. He leans in, like getting closer would help him figure her out. ]

Hey, are you okay? You look possessed or something. Not that that's a terribly BAD thing... Hee hee!

Everything is just fine.

[Her attitude shifted yet again.]

It seems you know something of that, though. For you, pain is pleasure...

I wouldn't say thaaat... I hate pain~ It's the worst feeling, pretty much.
