[Wave didn't seem to pay Shadow a second thought, just kept right on doing what she was doing. She recognized him, having raced him previously, but didn't seem put off by his presence.]

[ Wave was somehow familiar to him, and he couldn't place why. (Spoilers: He'd been told Sonic had married her when he first arrived. Rather, a variant of Sonic did.) Whatever. It didn't matter now. ]

[She kicked the board propped up next to her, causing it to fall flat. She hopped on it, kicked off the ground, and was off like a shot.]

[ At first, it seemed as if Wave had successfully escaped, buzzing off and leaving one disgruntled hedgehog behind. However, within a short minute or two, he'd returned by her side, utilizing his jets to reach high speeds.

[She whipped in a circle around him and took off in another direction. She had excellent mobility on her Gear.]

[ And so he appeared right in front of her, looking to disrupt her momentum with her gear. That'd give him the best chance to pounce like a panther in the night. ]
