Oh man. THERE was a guy Sonny was sure he'd never see again. He thought the Ethics teacher had given them all up as a lost cause long ago.... maybe he was back to pick up something he'd left behind? Or maybe this was a different version of him. Or maybe he'd gone to the store for a bottle of milk and just been sucked out of the timestream for a year or so. (It happened. Sonny could attest to that.)
Whatever it was, the Snorlax couldn't help but say Hi.
A familiar face. That was something at least, though it had both its advantages and drawbacks. "I see you are still here. Tell me, what has passed in this year?"
"In the last year? A lot of things? Probably the main one is that Island up there." Sonny said, pointing up to the huge floating continent in the sky. "That came during the Shadow Bug invasion and even after that died down, it stayed. Apart from that, some new people came and some old people left and it was kind of a quiet year?"
"Voile left." Sonny replied, his mood immediately souring at the memory. "Um. Warren came back. You remember him, right? I think the two are prooooobably connected."
"I didn't see a lot of her for a while." Sonny replied honestly. "She just seemed more quiet, mostly? She talked about doing something at the contest hall for spring but then that never happened and I hardly ever saw her. Then she was just gone."
Cyrus sighed, his head drooping ever so slightly. Unlike before, he didnt attempt to cover his action. "A pity. She showed so much promise, moreso than perhaps anyone here."
After a beat, he continued "Another was Sable. Is she still here?"
"No - Miss Sable left a while ago! Sorry to have to give you so much bad news. I think she went back to her home of Smashville to help her family in their store."
"That much is no loss. She continues her service and ethic." Her work ethic had impressed Cyrus, something he had never expected from the demure hedgehog, but it wasn't something that needed to be nearby.
That was unexpected. "You have the wrong idea. You know my view on the subject of friends--useless bonds that imprison us in our own tiny lives making it impossible to view the big picture. Her work ethic is simply admirable."
[ A large bird Pokemon watched from the rooftops where it rested. It had no reason to take interest in any one person just yet, so it merely observed passerby. ]
Though he paid little attention to the bird, Cyrus at least watched it briefly out of the corner of his eye. It was a pokémon, that much he was sure of, and it had a powerful feeling to it, but it was nothing that concerned him much.
"By definition there cannot be an improvement on perfection," Cyrus chided. "Your attempts to affix the term to yourself, however, show simply how very flawed you are."
"No warmonger can ever be considered perfect. That much is obvious to all but the most useless in society." Cyrus's tone was more openly hostile than his usual harsh monotone. Sonething had changed about him. He wasn't keeping the tight control he usually did.
"That's an over-generalization," Eggman retorted with a smirk. "Logical fallacies in your arguments? You've slipped!" If Cyrus had a harder time controlling his self-righteous front, Eggman was more than happy to goad him on.
"I present to you basic fact and you dismiss it. Those who wage war, who seek dominance and control...power is only temporary, and all empires fall. Your foundation is mere sand, and will crumble under what is right and just."
This was a bit more controlled, but not by much. The anger in Cyrus's voice was more than evident, and his hands were starting to tremble.
"You mean, unlike YOUR intentions for the world?" Eggman retorted smugly. "Trying to remake all of reality until some punk kid stepped up and stopped you? "I know the truth. I know you're jealous of me, because I've come closer to achieving YOUR goals than you EVER have."
"You could never comprehend my goals, as you embody the antithesis of them. You and what you stand for are why I must act, and what I will undo." He wasn't going to fall into that anger, no matter how much it shoved at his mind, no matter how justified it would be to act in violence. He had to be more stable than that, to reclaim what he had lost in the past year. "You could never understand justice."
"You want to remake the world in your image. What about that is hard to understand? Convince yourself anything you want, but there's nothing complicated about your goals," Eggman taunted. "You're just like me. You just don't want to admit it."
"In my image...how worthless. What i seek is the ultimate, that which we must ALL aspire to. There will be nothing so meaningless as self-centeredness, no egotism, no conceit. There will be only the perfection of a world without spirit. Only then," he snapped, "can we be free of our bonds and live unburdened."
With a quick glare, a subtle move that barely altered his usual expression, he added "You delight in that burden. Though I will rule, it will not be for myself. I will serve that perfection. You would do so for your own gratitude."
Eggman waved his hand dismissively. "All I'm hearing is that you think you're perfect and that everyone should be like you," he scoffed. "How PATHETIC! At least I have the RESOURCES to make my vision real! You just have your words!"
Cyrus waved his hand. "No human is perfect. We are inherently flawed, and that is why I do this. I will become perfect, and bring about the creation of that once thought impossible."
Only his words? How naïve. Though his followers were isolated to the Sinnoh region and had greatly reduced in number, they were, to Cyrus, adequate for the time being.
That was a memory Cyrus wanted rid of. He had no emotions, but he had no control over himself, and could only watch as his body was controlled like a puppet.
"I refuse. Perfection cannot come from one like you, I repeat again. It is meaningless besides, to achieve that ascendance without a greater goal."
From an extremely literal standpoint it was a true statement. But Cyrus wasn't about to fall into that trap. "Linguistically you may be correct, provided one uses 'greater' to simply mean larger. However, you are full aware that I speak of greater as something beyond this, some ultimate freedom from our shackles."
An also not-so-familiar hyperactive emotion pokemon floats down the hallway of her dorm and out the doors into the sunli--nope, into THIS guy.
She holds her head in confusion while she processes what just happened. "Oua, sorry, Mr. person. I wasn't watching where I was going. Do you know where--"
She looks up and recognizes that face.
"OMIGOSH, MISTER MAN!! HI, MISTER MAN!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, MISTER MAN??" she asks excitedly. Wow, she hadn't seen him in ages! Yay for familiarity!
Cyrus's first thought was that it was unfortunate that he was dressed so heavily. The touch of Mesprit was said to banish all emotion from the recipient, and had he been dressed in the manner of those around him in the hot weather, he may have been so blessed.
All other thoughts came a moment later. "So you have returned to this place." Finally it registered that he was being met with excitement. "...You recall me then. Our parting was less than fortuitous." He had failed, after all.
She swished her tails in delight and spun in a circle around him. "MISTER MAN REMEMBERS ME!! EHEHE!!"
"You use big words, Mister Man!!," she smiled. "But I like you anyway!! ...Oh, hehe, SORRY!! I'M OUT LOOKING FOR UXIE!! HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?! I THOUGHT HE WAS HERE!!"
If that was true, that would be fortutious. But to maintain them both...he would have to return immediately.
"I have not. Although I will aid your search." How could this being have no memory of his actions? Surely the being that embodied emotion, the very essence of spirit, would be enflamed with wrath. Yet its unquelling happiness was...stupid.
Always room for you!
Whatever it was, the Snorlax couldn't help but say Hi.
"Hi, Professor!"
You're so nice
His voice was halting, almost hesitant.

The thought of her was one of the few things that kept him focused over the past year. And she was gone. He visibly gulped.
"Very well. We shall combat that wicked being with all we have."
She was really gone?

It was a sore spot for him.

"So long as she did not leave with him. He controlled her for some time and it would be a shame for her energy to be sapped like that."
